3 Weeks Sober Living

It’s a strange day for me to be posting anything positive because I got hit pretty hard with a migraine this morning and I sort of feel like a bucket of shit while I type this.

I’ve dealt with some pretty bad migraines most of my life. They started when I was about 23 years old and they have gone through ups and downs. For a while I would go six or eight months without having one. Recently, as in the last four or five years, I was having them far more frequently. My migraines tend to be fairly debilitating visually. I lose sight in my left eye most every time. Sometimes I lose my eyesight in my right eye as well but that’s pretty rare.

Usually I’m able to catch them early enough that I can keep the headache and the nausea away but I was unable to this morning because I was not at home when it happened at about 7:30. So I just kind of had to suck it up and make my way home. Once the headache gets here it takes about 10 to 15 hours for it to leave.

I will say however that is the first migraine I’ve had in three weeks so I’m kind of wondering if maybe the act of getting the alcohol out of my system has helped that a bit. I was kind of surprised that I got one today to be honest with you.

But let’s move on… This is the beginning of week 4 without alcohol which means as of today we have gone three weeks without a drink. Yay for us! I thought I would pass along some things that I have noticed that are beginning to happen in my body after 3 weeks of sober living.

  • Joint pain has virtually disappeared.
  • My sleep has improved in ways that I can’t even describe.
  • My moods are evening out. I’m less stressed about nothing. My little bouts of depression are subsiding.
  • Salt cravings have really disappeared.

There are few things that I should probably point out that I have found that you really need to do in your first few weeks of getting that poison out of your system. You really need to supplement your body with proper vitamins. Alcohol depletes everything so much and it does it over a long period of time. You don’t really realize what is happening to you until it’s gone. You definitely need to supplement with iron, milk thistle as we have talked about, vitamin D, and most of the bees. Also a multivitamin but if you’re a halfway intelligent human being you’re already taking a multi everyday.

I’m not sure what kind of a workout I’m going to get in today with the headache and the nausea kind of ruling my life at the moment. But I will try to do something if I can get the headache to disappear. So we’ll keep our fingers crossed. And if not we’ll kick it back into gear tomorrow. Like I said yesterday, it’s a marathon not a Sprint. Got to take care of myself. Lots of water today, and lots of protein.

We’re pretty stoked that we got past the third week Mark. Heading into week number four. And of course Saturday will be the week 3 weigh-in…. I will try to do a blog post every day through the weekend as I have been doing. We are leaving on Monday morning for a little mini vacation. Not sure how much I’ll post from that but I will let you know.

Peace
