We hit 6 weeks!
Shocking. I figured we would hit about two and say, “fuck it,” but we didn’t. We kept going. And we’re feeling the benefits.
Here are all the things that have improved since we stopped drinking:
- Skin and hair
- Poop
- Joints
- Attention span
- Sleep
- Sensitivity to temperature
- Weight
- Stamina
- Mood
When you have issues with these things, your first indication is too usually just say, “well getting old sucks.”
Except that you shouldn’t be having issues with your joints and your skin and hair and your stamina and your weight Etc in your 40s and 50s. You’re not old. You’re right in the middle of life. These things make you feel like you’re old. Or older than you should feel. When your joints hurt and you’re not sleeping and you’re gaining weight and you’re in a bad mood, of course you feel old. And feeling like that gets old.
This week, we started this walking challenge thing. On day 1 we walked 2 miles and did the same on day 2. Last night’s pace was brisk. Almost a jog. And after the first mile or so it occurred to me that I wasn’t even tired or in pain. I could have done two or three more miles… Easy. I couldn’t have said that a month ago. Or even two weeks ago.
When you do anything to improve your life it’s not a quick fix. It takes time. We’re in the week 6 and I’m really starting to notice some changes. But they have been gradual. If you are trying to stop drinking don’t give up after 2 weeks just because you don’t feel any better. You will.
And the thing is if you are drinking too much right now you may not even realize how bad you feel. Because it’s become your normal. That’s exactly what happened to us. We knew something wasn’t quite right but we didn’t know what it was. But everything was so gradual that it just felt normal to feel bad. And we lived in denial. Thinking that it was our diet or our lack of exercise or the pandemic or stress.
It was booze. That’s it. That was the catalyst.
So we’re 6 weeks in. The next 6 should see massive changes.
Today, a fightcamp workout and 3 miles of walking. I need coffee first.
Peace.
