Enjoy the Torture

Something popped back up in yesterday’s workout that hasn’t been there in six or seven years. I was halfway through. I wanted to quit. I started to take off my gloves. Sweat was in my eyes, my chest hurt. My stomach was upset and I was done…..until suddenly, I wasn’t. Something clicked in my brain, man.

I embraced the pain.

When I owned my gym we had all of these sayings painted on the walls. They were meant to be motivational. We put them on t-shirts. We recited them in classes. And in training sessions. And in sparring sessions. Some of them were funny and some of them were real life.

It was stuff like :

  • Fighting Solves Everything
  • My gym can beat up your gym
  • If it was easy we’d do it at parties with cake
  • It’s called WORK out, not PLAY out

And my favorite: EMBRACE THE TORTURE

The biggest problem that I have had in the past 3 years is focusing on the outcome. You can’t do that. It’s like a fight. You have to focus on you….what YOU do. How YOU train. How YOU eat. You can’t focus on the outcome. The outcome will swallow you whole.

It’s a fight. In this case, the opponent is bad habits, stamina, weakness and body fat.  So what do I do about that?

  • Fight the bad habits with focus
  • Fight the stamina with cardio
  • Fight the weakness with weights and heavy bag work
  • Fight the bodyfat with good diet and mindful intake

All of that. And I mean ALL OF THAT only works if you stay right in your own head.

You have to get rid of the justifying and the excuses and the bullshit reasons for giving up and backsliding.

Tomorrow is weigh in day. I was going to do it on Fridays, but I want to make Saturdays special again. Since Covid-19 hit, weekends don’t mean as much. I’m just trying to make it a goal day. I’ll say it right now, that I would love to see 220lbs tomorrow…. So… I have work to do today.

Have a Great day!

Peace
